In era of technology world, World Wide Web is growing like anything. Websites on net are like a mushrooms and growing day by day. Searching information from it is quite challenging now. Various algorithms are used by Google search engine for searching a website as per the required keyword or phrase. Higher ranked pages are displayed on top as per others. Various developments and updates of algorithms are continuously going on by Google to give the best and high quality results, when searched. The search algorithm finds and selects the top most result to specific ranking measures. It will not consider the websites with low quality content or if they are not following the search engine rules. There are approximately 200 ranking factors are used in the algorithms.

Google Caffeine

It was release in 2010, this search algorithm is intended to analyse the architectural composition of the websites on their index and also which are still to be searched. It processes numerous pages in parallel.  Google Panda

It was launched in 2011 .It targets that sites which publish low quality contents and punish them. It demotes that sites which had duplicate content, content not original, bulky advertisements, etc. The purpose of panda is to display high quality sites when searched for a particular keyword. It has approximately 26 updates so far. Latest update is done June 2015, Panda version 4.2 was launched. This rollout implies to sites who were punished by panda in last upgrade has opportunity to rise if they have rolled out the right improvements. As per the latest update Google panda algorithm is now considered as a part of Google core ranking.

Google Penguin

It was launched in 2012. It targeted that websites that has indicated keyword filling and doing Black hat SEO. It considered sites that is of high quality and uses white – hat SEO. It penalized those sites which is having manipulated links, which are not relevant. The objective of Penguin is to decrease the faith that Google has in sites that have deceived by creating perverted back links in order to attain a benefit in the Google results. In order to recover from this algorithm strike, you need to discover the back links which are not ok and remove before a new update of the Penguin. Google had rolled out penguin update in 2014.

Hummingbird

It is a new concept which handles search engine queries in an intelligent way with old features also. It was launched in 2013.It is based on a concept of semantics. It is paying more attention to each word while searching, depends upon a meaningful match. It is not penalty based update. This algorithm deals in a better way with spoken queries. It is simple to optimize the pages of sites for hummingbird by producing visual content and using appropriate language for the topic. It is all about query based search not Keyword. It is affecting 90% of search and gives new way of search results.

Google Pigeon

It is launched on 24 July, 2014, a new algorithm to provide more valuable, significant and exact local search results that are attached more strongly to local web search ranking signals. It shows the effect of the result in Google maps also. It is quite helpful for local business. It has updates related to location and distance as a part of search strategy.

Google Payday Loan

It is launched in June 2013.It does not target at the content or the back links of a site. Google uses the Payday Loan Update to particularly target search requests and markets where there is an extreme beginning of spam or prohibited SEO-techniques. It aims to raise the quality of required search market results. Pay day loan 3.0 targets on spammed queries. It is a set of algorithms initiated to penalize sites using spam technique.

Keyword domains are not removed but it only decreases its ranking in search.  This EMD algorithm update is intended to target those Websites, which are actually with low quality, who are ranking higher in searches because of keyword benefit in the domain name. For recovery, you need to work more on content and branding.

Google Mobile friendly ranking Update
It is released on April 2015.It is supposed to give a ranking enhancement for mobile friendly websites in search result. It does page by page signal .To check whether you are mobile friendly or that, it can be checked using Google mobile friendly tool. It is based on crawling of pages in real time. It is business friendly and test mobile friendliness and also the speed. It also shows a warning to website owners if their site is not mobile friendly.

Google Core Algorithm Update (Phantom Update)

It was released in May 2015.They had not revealed the ranking factors, that is why it is named as phantom Update. It influenced website operators and search ranking remarkably. The advisory pages, domains or editorial portals lose their visibility if affected by this algorithm.


Over the past few years now many algorithms immerged and many are coming to improve search queries as well as the content quality. So we should aim on high quality content and user experience to get better SEO.
